Recovery from Addiction

Recovery is NOT a destination, but a continuous journey based on long-term commitment and reintegration into a culture of recovery.
Recovery is NOT a ‘quick fix.’
Recovery is NOT mysterious or hidden, but should be clearly evident in your behaviour
Recovery is NOT dry addiction - doing life without drugs and without healing and transformational change
Recovery is NOT your own plan. No one recovers in isolation. Get help.
Recovery is NOT impossible. Everyone who is willing to change can change.
Recovery is NOT ‘drop and go’ but an integrated and united effort by the family, the addicted individual, and their recovery program

Recovery has to be holistic and balanced if it is to be sustained. Every area of one’s life was affected and therefore every area needs to recover. A medical check-up is vital. A healthy living plan, such as good sleep, a healthy diet and eating plan, and an exercise regimen, is an important ingredient. Effective rehabilitation should result in positive change in one’s physical, spiritual, mental, emotional, social, environmental, vocational, and financial life.

Family supporters often fear relapse, and if they have not learnt effective supporter skills to bolster and support recovery, they then use negative old ways of coping, such as denial, obsessing, emotionally venting, enabling, or controlling, which undermines the entire recovery process.

Mighty Wings Life Centre courses have helped many addicted individuals, as well as a supporter program for their family supporters. Please click on ‘Testimonies' to see how our courses have helped others.

Recovery is:

R - Restoring the damage caused by the negative effects of drug abuse.
E - Effective Boundary setting to be implemented in every area of one’s life.
C - Commitment to one’s own recovery and non-compromise stance to positive change
O - One day at a time, one step at a time. Too much too soon will sink your recovery.
V - Values and morals restored. A spiritual awakening and surrender to God.
E - Earning back trust of others through changed behaviour and rebuilding self-esteem.
R - Reintegration into a recovery lifestyle. Recovery does not take place in isolation.
Y - Your recovery, your goals. Clearly define a recovery plan with goals and accountability.
