Three years ago Carol and Rodney Keyzer founded the Empowered Seminar with a mission to “Empower” people to overcome the devastating effects of addiction. They understood that families needed to be educated about drugs but more specifically about addiction and how to support loved ones in recovery. They found that churches wanted to be informed and wanted to support people and their families who were affected by addiction.
Many many people have participated in the Empowered Seminar with outstanding results. The seminar forms the foundation of clients programs at MWLC and assists to familiarise the family with their individual roles and is intended to bring clarity, unity and lay a foundation before recovery programs can start. Through attending the seminar people are EMPOWERED to overcome and restore the damage in their own lives caused by addiction. They learn how to recognize warning signs and how to take action before a relapse occurs. In the seminar recovery principles are defined and a new understanding helps families to develop new coping skills. People learn how to support a person in recovery, and realize that they are not alone in addiction. Life Skills such as establishing boundaries and communication skills are improved and the end result is that people leave with hope.
